West Vancouver police are investigating a collision that has sent one person to hospital.

The West Vancouver Police Department received a report of a significant collision in the 2400 block of Marine Dr around 6 am this morning.  According to the preliminary reports, a vehicle was travelling eastbound on Marine Drive when it collided with a granite road sign at the 25th and Marine Drive intersection. The resulting debris field was spread over a half-block on both sides of the roadway.

The driver, who was the only person involved in the accident, was immediately taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The officers are investigating the collision’s cause, and speed and impairment have not been ruled out.  Fortunately, no pedestrians or other drivers were injured in this collision.

“We are fortunate that no pedestrians or other drivers were injured in this collision,” said Sgt Chris Bigland. He also confirmed that Marine Drive would be closed in both directions until the debris is cleared and the road becomes safe for travel. Police is urging the public to avoid the area.

A debris field over half a block long? That driver must’ve been “flying” at a very high rate of speed.
