Metro Vancouver has increased flows in the Seymour River this week to support fish populations in the lower river.
According to Metro Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver, two short water releases from the Seymour Falls Dam began the week of September 15. The controlled pulses are designed to encourage salmon migration during spawning season.

The agencies said the flow increases will be modest and carefully managed to reduce safety risks. “We remind residents and river users to exercise caution near the Seymour River during these releases,” Metro Vancouver said in a statement. They added that people using or entering the rivers and shorelines do so at their own risk.
The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Seymour Salmonid Society. River levels for both the Seymour and Capilano rivers can be viewed here.
