North Vancouver writers now have a dedicated, supportive space to focus on their craft thanks to the Silent Writers Workshop, led by local writer and North Vancouver Recreation and Culture (NVRC) Artist-in-Residence Erin MacNair.
In an NVRC post, organizers described the workshop as a pressure-free environment where participants can show up and write, surrounded by the quiet support of a like-minded community. The workshop was created by MacNair as part of her NVRC artist residency project in 2024.
Now in its second year, the weekly sessions provide a calm, structured space for writers of all backgrounds to reflect, create, and connect. The workshop has quickly become a hub of encouragement, where participants can not only get words on the page but also feel seen, supported, and inspired along the way, the NVRC post noted.
The sessions are free and open to all, with no registration required. Workshops are scheduled on Thursdays at the Art Studio on the top floor of the Delbrook Community Recreation Centre (851 West Queens Road) from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Winter sessions run from January 15 to March 12, 2026, and spring sessions from April 2 to May 21, 2026. Each session begins with a silent write-in until 12:30 p.m., followed by a discussion of participants’ projects until 1:30 p.m.
According to NVRC, the workshop’s inclusive environment, guided by MacNair’s quiet leadership, cultivates trust and productivity among participants.
