A special weather statement is in effect for North Shore as heavy rain and strong winds are expected to pound the area on Thursday night and Friday.
Besides North Shore, the statement is also in effect for Howe Sound, Fraser Valley, Sunshine Coast, East Vancouver Island, Victoria, and Southern Gulf Islands.
As much as 30 to 70 mm of rainfall is expected with wind 80 km/h. “An atmospheric river will bring heavy rain and strong winds to parts of the south coast on Thursday night and Friday. Rain is expected to develop Thursday afternoon and intensify Thursday night,” says Environment Canada.
The rain will continue into Friday before tapering off to showers on Friday afternoon. Total rainfall amounts of 30 to 70 mm are expected with the highest amounts over higher terrain. Winds will ease Friday evening as the storm exits the region.
Atmospheric rivers vary in intensity and impacts. This atmospheric river is expected to be similar in strength to the most recent event on Sunday, October 30.
