North Vancouver RCMP impounded two cars and ticketed drivers for speeding on local roads.
On May 28, North Van RCMP said it clocked a car doing 148 kilometres per hour on Hwy 1 near Lonsdale. It is an 80 km/h zone. The car was impounded for a week.
Another excessive speeder doing 164 kilometres per hour on the upper levels near Westview was also handed out ticket and the vehicle was impounded for a week.
The ticket for doing more than 60 kilometre per hour is $483.
“Speeders like this need to learn to respect other road users,” RCMP said.
Over the past few days, the Speed Watch Team at North Van RCMP clocked over 6,900 vehicles on local roads. Officer also issued 28 warnings and 13 tickets to drivers who didn’t slow down despite the big warning signs.
The police are also now employing the North Van Speed Watch to remind people to slow down and drive safely.
“As restrictions ease, roads are getting busier, so in addition to enforcement, we’re making sure to remind people the rules haven’t changed,” the police said.
