Heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and a risk of thunderstorms are expected to affect the North Shore beginning Tuesday and continuing into early next week, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
In a weather advisory issued Tuesday morning, Environment Canada placed Metro Vancouver, including North and West Vancouver, under a yellow rainfall warning and a special weather statement as a vigorous cold front approaches the Lower Mainland.
According to Environment Canada, rain will be heavy at times on Tuesday, with 15 to 25 millimetres expected during the day. Southeast winds are forecast at 30 km/h, with gusts reaching 50 km/h, while temperatures remain steady near 9°C.
Rain will continue into Tuesday night, then taper near midnight, followed by cloudy conditions and a 60% chance of showers. Environment Canada said an additional 20 to 30 millimetres of rain is possible overnight, along with a risk of thunderstorms. Winds will shift from southeast to west late in the evening, increasing to 40 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h. Overnight lows are expected to be near 4°C.
Wednesday is forecast to be mainly cloudy, with a 30% chance of showers increasing to 70% by noon, according to Environment Canada. There remains a risk of thunderstorms early Wednesday morning, while west winds of 20 km/h are expected to ease later in the day. The daytime high is forecast at 9°C, with showers continuing overnight and a low of 6°C.
Environment Canada said winds are expected to ease early Wednesday morning as the cold front moves inland. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible travel delays, fallen trees, and localized power outages.
