A public survey has opened on a proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line that would link the North Shore with Burnaby and Vancouver, according to TransLink’s BRT Program. The survey is open until Sunday, September 21. vv

The Metrotown–North Shore BRT would run 21 kilometres with 16 to 17 stations, depending on the final route option. Buses would arrive every five minutes during peak hours, and TransLink projects the service could carry up to 60,000 riders daily by 2035.

The BRT system is designed to provide faster and more reliable service through dedicated bus lanes, transit signal priority at intersections, and weather-protected stations. It would connect riders to Park Royal, Lonsdale Quay, Phibbs Exchange, Brentwood Town Centre, BCIT, and Metrotown, with transfers available to the SeaBus, the SkyTrain Expo and Millennium lines, and the R5 Hastings RapidBus.

TransLink is seeking feedback on two potential route options between Kootenay Loop and Brentwood Town Centre:

– Hastings Street/Willingdon Avenue – a direct link to Burnaby Heights via Hastings Street and Willingdon Avenue.

– Boundary Road/Lougheed Highway – a direct link to Gilmore SkyTrain station via Boundary Road and Lougheed Highway.

According to the program website, the service is expected to deliver “faster travel times and improved reliability over existing transit options.”
