Suspect charged after man beaten and burned at Lonsdale Quay SeaBus Terminal

Staff report
October 9, 2025 12:30pm

A suspect has been arrested and charged after a man was beaten and burned following a dispute at Lonsdale Quay SeaBus Terminal.

On January 5, 2025, around 11:25 a.m., a dispute broke out between two men at the fare gates at Lonsdale Quay, when one prevented the other from following him through without paying. The man who had been prevented from following through the fare gates allegedly then approached the man from behind and punched him in the head several times before using a torch lighter to burn the side of his face and head. The suspect fled the area on foot before police arrived on the scene.

Detectives with the Transit Police General Investigation Unit launched an investigation and arrested the suspect the following day, 30-year-old Kyle Helmut Weber of no fixed address. Last week, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges of Assault and Assault with a Weapon. Weber was released by the courts pending his next court appearance with several conditions including a “no-go” to the Lonsdale Quay SeaBus Terminal and not to possess any incendiary devices or flammable products.

“Transit Police commend the actions of a SeaBus Marine Attendant who intervened and stopped the physical altercation. Although we would never ask that anyone place themselves in harm’s way, we want to acknowledge the Attendant’s quick thinking in assisting the man and calling the police,” Constable Amanda Steed.

If you have been the victim of a crime, or witnessed a crime, you are asked to call Transit Police at 604.515.8300, or text 87.77.77. Always call 911 in an emergency.
