Teen arrested for attempted car jacking in North Vancouver

Staff report
December 1, 2022 4:24pm

A 15-year-old is in the custody of North Van RCMP after two attempted carjacking attempts. On November 30, North Vancouver RCMP responded to an attempted carjacking with a firearm at a gas station on Capilano Road.

It is alleged that the suspect pointed a firearm at the victim, demanding the keys to his vehicle. The victim was able to wrestle the gun away and pin the suspect down until police arrived. The gun is believed to be a replica firearm.

Through the course of the investigation, investigators were able to link a number of other offences that occurred in North Vancouver earlier in the evening. At approximately 5:30 pm on the same day, it is alleged the suspect committed a break and enter to a residence and stole a vehicle. That vehicle was later recovered after it crashed, sustaining major damage.

At approximately 8  pm the suspect attended the Capilano Suspension bridge parking lot and car jacked a vehicle from a couple after he revealed a firearm in his waistband. The victim’s vehicle was later located abandoned nearby. The victims were not harmed in this incident.

Subsequent to the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, where numerous stolen items were located and have since been linked to other offences. The 15-year-old is facing charges of Robbery and Firearms offences. Further charges are expected as the investigation continues. Based on the accused’s age, his name cannot be published.

“Its very concerning, alarming and frightening, said Cst. Mansoor SAHAK of the North Vancouver RCMP. The victims in these cases were out enjoying an evening and the last thing that they expected was for something so violent and so brazen as this to happen.”
