Theft from vehicles is on the rise in North Vancouver

STAFF REPORT
February 25, 2020 1:37pm

North Vancouver RCMP is urging the community to lock their vehicles because of an increase in theft from vehicles throughout North Vancouver.

Specifically, over the past two week, there has been a spike in the number of car break-ins in the Princess and Lynn Valley Area.

The North Vancouver RCMP is conducting an on-going investigation regarding these incidents, but majority of the thefts were to vehicles that were left unlocked.

The North Vancouver RCMP said it is actively investigating these incidents.

Recently, police have been able to further their investigations with the help of citizens notifying police of suspicious persons as well as vehicles along with images from their home video surveillance.

In many cases, thieves are checking doors and stealing anything of value from unlocked vehicles.

Police said it follows trends, but this can only be done if these thefts are being reported to police.

North Vancouver Block Watch recommends the following to prevent Theft from Vehicles:

Always lock your vehicles, even in your own driveway;

Do no leave any property in plain view inside your vehicle;

Do not leave any personal identification in your vehicle including your driver’s licence, financial documents, credit / debit information, or any mail;

Do not keep your garage door opener in your vehicle;

Park your vehicle in a well-lit area;

Consider getting motion-sensor lights for your carport or driveway; and

If possible, keep your vehicle in sight of home surveillance.

Police is asking citizens to report all suspicious activities to the North Vancouver RCMP at (604) 985-1311 (non-emergency) or 9-1-1 if a crime is in progress.
