Two people were arrested in West Vancouver after police say they stole a bait vehicle equipped with GPS tracking and surveillance technology.
According to a press release from the West Vancouver Police Department, officers responded to the activation of a bait vehicle on Nov. 23, 2025. Police located the vehicle shortly after and arrested two suspects at the scene.
During the arrests, officers seized several items believed to be stolen property. Police also recovered a discarded copy of the Criminal Code of Canada that had been inside the vehicle.
The incident is part of a proactive theft deterrence program that uses bait vehicles and bait property in areas experiencing higher rates of property crime. The program is run in partnership with the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team.
According to West Vancouver police, bait vehicles are designed to resemble common theft targets and are equipped with GPS tracking, audio and video monitoring, and, in some cases, remote engine-disabling technology. These features allow officers to monitor thefts in real time and respond quickly and safely.
Police say the strategy is intended to deter theft, support investigations, and improve community safety by holding offenders accountable. Bait property is clearly marked and tracked to support identification and evidence collection.
The investigation remains ongoing, and charges have not yet been announced.
