Traffic disruptions ahead: East 23rd Street closure for Harry Jerome construction

Staff report
July 15, 2024 11:17am

As part of the construction of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre, the 100-block of East 23rd Street, between Lonsdale and St. Georges Avenue, will be closed from July 15 to August 5.

The road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and if needed, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. During construction, there will be detours, parking restrictions and road closures. There may be some parking on East 23rd Street outside of construction hours. Please follow all posted signage.

The four accessible stalls off East 23rd Street will be available during this time. Traffic control flaggers will allow those with an accessible parking permit displayed onto East 23rd Street and direct them to the spots. Handy Dart will also be permitted access to East 23rd Street for pick-up and drop-off.

The southbound left turning lane from Lonsdale onto East 23rd Street will be closed so customers wanting to access the accessible parking will need to access it via St. Georges and East 23rd or turn right onto East 23rd heading northbound up Lonsdale.

Pedestrians may be re-directed to use areas safe to the public. Cyclists are encouraged to dismount their bikes and use the sidewalk.
