Effective Tuesday, September 6, the lower part of the BCMC Route at Grouse Mountain Regional Park will be closed all day from Monday to Friday.
Metro Vancouver will be closing this route to upgrade the trails, and the work is scheduled to last until November, though an exact date has yet to be decided.
When the route is closed, it is possible to use a detour along the Baden-Powell and Larsen trails to reconnect with the upper part of the BCMC near marker 29. If conditions allow, the BCMC Route will be open for use on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.
However, during those times, trail users need to remember that they will be passing through active construction areas and will need to use extra caution.
Metro Vancouver is also cautioning people about bears in Grouse Mountain Regional Park. Bears have been seen recently in the park, and people are being asked to be bear aware and give bears respect and distance. Do not attempt to get close to a bear or feed a bear.
Also, remember to pack out all your garbage, including organic waste such as apple cores and banana peels. If you do encounter a bear, do not run and face the bear and back away slowly.
Stay calm and talk to the bear in a confident voice but make sure the bear has a clear exit.
