TransLink has completed major upgrades to Lonsdale Quay Exchange to improve the experience for North Shore transit users.
The overhaul has significantly enhanced lighting, customer space, neighbourhood integration, and capacity for future bus service expansion.
Improvements include an updated design to accommodate the R2RapidBus, raised ceiling throughout the exchange and a new ceiling above the passenger hub near the SeaBus fare gates to provide better lighting.
Other upgrades include improved accessibility for wheelchairs and strollers, new and brighter concrete pavement, new lighting throughout the exchange, and bus bay indicators on LED-lit column panels.
Durable tactile walking surface indicators at each bus bay have also been installed.
The exchange served more than 5,000 bus customers and 20,000 SeaBus customers on an average weekday in 2019.
This $14.7 million investment was paid for through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.
MLA Bowinn Ma said the completed upgrades are an exciting and welcome improvement to one of the North Shore’s most important transit exchanges.
“The upgrades to the Lonsdale Quay Exchange include a more welcoming, vibrant, and spacious transit hub for commuters and residents that will enhance the travel experience across the North Shore,” said Mayor Linda Buchanan.
Jonathan Wilkinson said as an MP for North Vancouver, he is pleased that the Government of Canada is a partner in these important upgrades to the Lonsdale Exchange, which will help make getting around the North Shore by public transit safer, easier and more comfortable.
