Two killed after tree falls on house in West Vancouver

January 2, 2022 1:38pm

Two people were killed after a large tree fell on a house in a Horseshoe Bay neighbourhood overnight.

Officers were called to the 6200 blk of Wellington Ave after a report of a large tree falling on houses.

While on scene, officers noted downed Hydro wires and ruptured gas lines that were damaged as a result of the uprooted tree.

Emergency crews on scene confirmed the death of two people inside the house, a man in his 60’s and a woman in her 50’s.

“This appears to be a tragic accident,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy. “We are supporting the British Columbia Coroners Service as they conduct their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the loss of life.” “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.”

Roads remain closed to traffic in the area and the scene is still active as crews work to remove the tree and debris.
