Vancouver police arrest high-risk sex offender

July 8, 2019 3:21pm

Vancouver police have arrested a high-risk sex offender.

Jonathan Cardinal, a 29-year-old federal sex offender, had failed to return to his Vancouver halfway house last week.

Just before midnight on July 7, two uniformed officers noticed Cardinal walking in the Downtown Eastside.

Cardinal initially provided officers with a false name; however he was arrested after officers discovered his identity.

He is serving a long-term supervisory order following two violent sexual assaults in 2010, and is bound by several conditions including a curfew.
