A single-vehicle rollover early this morning on Highway 99 in West Vancouver is a stark reminder of the hazards of heavy rain and water pooling on roads. According to West Vancouver Police, the rollover incident occurred early this morning during heavy rain. No one was seriously injured in this incident.

“Very heavy rain plus significant pooling water equals SLOW DOWN,” the West Vancouver Police advised in a social media post accompanying the photo, urging drivers to exercise caution in poor weather. A special weather statement is in effect for Vancouver, North Shore and the Fraser Valley as a powerful storm system brings heavy rain and high winds.

Heavy rain began early this morning and is expected to impact the morning rush hour, reducing visibility on roads and highways. Commuters should anticipate slower travel times and take caution,  especially near rivers, creeks, and culverts, where the rainfall could lead to washouts.

Rainfall totals vary across the region, with the North Shore expecting between 30 to 40 mm and mountainous areas potentially seeing as much as 40 to 70 mm. While some areas of Metro Vancouver will see lighter rain, the storm’s intensity could lead to rapid accumulation in a short timeframe, compounding flood risks in vulnerable zones.
