Watermain replacement on Capilano Road; expect lane closures, detours

The work will take approximately seven weeks to complete
Staff report
June 11, 2024 6:28am

The District of North Vancouver has started work on a significant watermain replacement project along Capilano Road as part of its annual infrastructure asset replacement program. The project began on June 9, 2024, and is expected to take approximately seven weeks, though timelines may vary.

Work will be completed in phases along Capilano Road to reduce traffic impacts. Work will start at Capilano Road and Marine Drive and end on Capilano Road from Fullerton Avenue to Highway 1, according to a notice by DNV. The first phase of work, on Marine Drive and within the intersection at Capilano Road, will occur at night, starting Sunday, June 9, for approximately two weeks.

Once the intersection work is complete, crews will continue northward up Capilano Road in a phased approach. This portion of work will occur during daytime hours and take about five weeks to complete.

Traffic and Community Impact

Throughout the project, lane closures and detours will be implemented. Residents and commuters are advised to adhere to posted signage, follow the traffic flaggers’ instructions, and plan for additional travel time during construction. As the project progresses, the District will issue letters to affected neighbourhoods with specific details on road closures, detours, and traffic changes.

For questions or feedback about this project, please email at eng@dnv.org.
