Wear masks in congested areas of Cypress, Mount Seymour parks: BC Parks

STAFF REPORT
December 6, 2020 11:22am

BC Parks is encouraging people to wear masks in congested areas of Mount Seymour and Cypress Provincial Parks.

Cypress and Mount Seymour Provincial Parks are a popular destination for winter recreation, and everyone must take precautions for a fun and safe trip to the park, BC Parks said.

“All visitors are encouraged to wear a mask while travelling through congested areas including parking lots, at the trailheads, and at viewing areas,” BC Parks said.

“As per PHO regulations, all park visitors must wear a mask when inside any park facility. Be sure to stay 2 meters apart, and don’t forget to bring your own hand sanitizer and hand sanitize often,” BC Parks said.

All park visitors must adhere to the Mt Seymour Resort COVID-19 winter protocols when transiting through the ski base area or using any facilities.”

BC Parks has issued the same advisory for Cypress Provincial Parks.

Meanwhile, Cypress Mountain will be cashless this season, and all resort purchases will be through credit cards or debit cards only.

“Ski Lift Tickets, Equipment Rentals, Ski Lessons, Tubing Tickets, Trail and Snowshoe Tickets must be Purchased On-Line,” the resort says.

Mount Seymour resort, too, has introduced new protocols as part of which face covering are mandatory lift lines, on the chairs, the magic carpet, in lineups, and in buildings.

BC Parks is also cautioning people that trails and parking lots in Stawamus Chief Provincial Park are not maintained during winter, and people using them will be doing so at their own risk.

“You may encounter deep snow, ice and slippery conditions. Micro spikes or snowshoes are strongly recommended. Use at your own risk,” BC Parks said in an update posted on November 23.

Similar warnings have also been posted for Alice Lake, Shannon Falls and Murrin Park in the Sea to Sky region.

“During cold conditions, ice may form. Trail may be slippery. Watch for falling ice and debris,” BC Parks said.
