Wedding tragedy in West Vancouver claims the life of two individuals

August 23, 2022 7:16am

A wedding tragedy claims the life of two individuals over the weekend.

On August 20, 2022, at 6:10pm, West Vancouver Police, West Vancouver Fire and Rescue, along with BC Emergency Health Services attended the 400 block of Keith Rd, West Vancouver for a report of a collision that involved multiple injuries.

The driver, a female in her 60s, was leaving her residence by way of a shared driveway when she collided with a group of individuals who were attending a wedding at the adjacent property.

Despite the efforts of witnesses and emergency services who attempted to render lifesaving assistance, two females in their 60s were pronounced deceased at the scene. Another seven individuals including the driver were sent to the hospital, two with life altering injuries.

Investigators from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) were called out and traffic was shut down for part of the evening as ICARS conducted their investigation.

ICARS is responsible for the forensic reconstruction of collisions that result in serious injury or death.

The investigation is still in its early stages and our investigators are working hard to determine the cause of the collision.

“This is a tragic, tragic incident for everyone involved” Says Cst. Nicole Braithwaite. “If you were directly affected by this or know someone who was, our Victim Services team is available to provide you with resources that you might need. They can be reached at 604-925-7468.”

“This is a complex investigation and we thank our partner agencies, West Vancouver Fire and Rescue, BC Emergency Health Services, NVRCMP/ North Vancouver Victim Services, and BC Coroners Service for their assistance,”
