West Van family avoids serious injury after ‘frightening’ encounter with break-in suspect

April 12, 2023 7:56am

A family in West Vancouver avoided serious injury as they confronted a burglary suspect in their kitchen. Police says a serious injury was avoided in a ‘frightening encounter’ between a family and the suspect. Early this week, residents of a Cedardale home were shocked to find a suspect in their kitchen early morning.

They immediately called 911 and officers were on scene in minutes to help the homeowner who managed to gain control of the suspect. A 52-year-old Vancouver man was arrested and victim services is working to support the traumatized home owners. West Vancouver police will provide general break-in prevention measures in a later update to citizens. West Vancouver police continues to investigate the incident.

Thefts from vehicles in Horseshoe Bay and Ambleside

Your vehicle should not be a four-wheeled storage safe for valuables: More residents in West Vancouver learned this lesson the hard way over the last week.

West Vancouver police say tools were stolen from a vehicle in the Horseshoe Bay area after a rear window was smashed. Cash, clothes, banks and identity cards have also been stolen from unlocked or unsecured vehicles in the Ambleside & Taylor Way as well as Marine Drive area. Police are urging residents to remove all valuables from their vehicle.
