A 95-year-old Dundarave heritage home has found a new lease of life on Malcolm Island.
The home at 2367 Marine Drive is described as the “epitome of timeless beauty, yet with contemporary comfort of thermal windows custom designed to her original character.”
A third-generation Finnish-Canadian family has bought both the home as well as another home that will be relocated from Larch Street in Vancouver.
“This Malcolm Island family is the perfect match for both these homes which were now saved in the nick of time,” said Ronel Dreyer of Nickel Brothers, the company that is relocating the home.
Dryer said there is no wait for a building permit on the island, and the family also possesses the heavy equipment resources to build or alter roads and assist at the barge site.
“However sad for West Vancouver to lose this beauty, she will soon be a greatly valued asset to her new family on Malcolm Island,” Dryer added.
North Shore Heritage Preservation Society said it always prefers a home remains in place, but supports relocation in order to preserve the house for others to see and for environmental reasons.
Nickel Brother has thanked the developer, North Shore Heritage Preservation Society and West Vancouver authorities including Jennifer Clay and Councillor Nora Gambioli for their help.
The home will be moved in November.
