West Van police caution after 75 thefts from cars in three months

Staff report
December 1, 2022 4:13pm

West Vancouver Police is urging residents and visitors to lock their doors and remove valuables from your vehicles.

In the past three months, West Vancouver has had 75 reports of theft from vehicles. While not all of these incidents could have been prevented, the majority of these thefts have occurred to vehicles which were left unlocked.

“We know that West Vancouver is a very safe community and people can take advantage of that,” says Cst. Nicole Braithwaite. “The holiday season is here and people are looking for gifts to steal. Help us lock out auto crime by making a habit of locking your doors and removing valuables from your vehicle.”

West Vancouver police is urging people to report all suspicious activity to the police.

Here are some simple steps that you can take to protect yourself from auto crime, especially during this holiday season:

  • Lock your doors
  • Park in a well-lit high traffic area
  • Do not leave any valuables inside an unoccupied vehicle
    • Consider shopping with reusable bags to conceal branding and logos.

I liked your Idea. Nicole , about using unmarked bags for shopping. Especially at this time of year but we reakkt should be avoiding plastic at any time.
