West Van police investigate racist graffiti as hate crime

July 11, 2019 11:46am

West Vancouver Police are investigating racist graffiti found at multiple locations in the municipality.

On July 9, WVPD received a report of graffiti in the 1300 block of Camridge Rd. When officers arrived, they noted extensive damage to a vehicle caused by red and blue spray paint.

As officers conducted a canvass of the area, they discovered multiple locations nearby marked with red and blue graffiti. Light posts, vehicles, and mailboxes were the primary targets, with one vehicle covered bumper to bumper on both sides.

Officers also discovered racist graffiti on the side of a second vehicle, as well as across the front of a large community mailbox.

“This is especially concerning to us given the racist language that was used,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy WVPD. “We are asking anyone with information about this, to please come forward.”

It is believed the damage was done between July 8 at 4 pm and July 9 at 4:30 am and is estimated to be valued at over $7000.

WVPD are treating this as a hate crime and have notified the BC Hate Crimes Team for their review. The incidents are still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact WVPD at 604-925-7300 (reference file #19-7936). If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.

Somehow I doubt the graffiti was racist towards white people

Hate against white people? Is there anything suggesting there has been such thing from these pieces of news?
