West Van police seek witnesses to assault in Ambleside Park

The assault left a 17-year-old youth in hospital with serious, life-altering, injuries
STAFF REPORT

West Vancouver Police Department investigators are appealing to the public for information about a Saturday evening assault with a weapon at Ambleside Park that left a 17-year-old male youth in hospital with serious, life-altering, injuries.

The assault happened on Saturday, May 9, at approximately 6:15 pm in Ambleside Park, east of the concession stand.

BC Ambulance Service, West Vancouver Fire & Rescue, and WVPD officers quickly attended the area. Patrol officers identified four suspects and took them into custody near the scene, but they were released later.

Detectives from the WVPD Major Investigations Team are investigating and are hoping the public can help.

“We need anyone who witnessed this, anyone with video evidence, or anyone with any information at all, to contact us,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy.

Police are seeking dashcam footage either before or after 6:15 pm on Saturday night. Police are also asking people to call them if they may have witnessed the incident or know anything about it.

“If you saw what took place, if you were there, if your dash cam captured footage either before or after 6:15 pm on Saturday night, or if you know anything about this incident, please get in touch with us.”

“This young man has suffered life changing injuries. We want to be sure we gather all available evidence so we have a clear picture of everything that happened,” West Van police said.

“Mother’s Day is supposed to be about celebrating loved ones. No mother should have to spend it in the hospital while her child recovers from being injured in a senseless crime.”

The youth was transported from the scene by BC Ambulance Service to a local hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 604-925-7300 and reference police file number 20-4833.

Why did the West Vancouver Police whine on about Mother’s Day? It sounds ingenuine. As well, I doubt the West Vancouver Police Department has ever solved any crimes. They did virtually nothing after my house was broken into and $14,000 worth of goods were stolen. They didn’t even bother to take fingerprints. Unorganized, overpaid. The WVPD needs a culling.

To clear up any confusion… by culling, I don’t mean killings. Duh! I mean firings!
