West Van shuts down public facilities until further notice

March 14, 2020 11:05am

The District of West Vancouver is closing the Seniors’ Activity Centre, the weight rooms at the Gleneagles Community Centre and Aquatic Centre, the Gymnastics Gym at the Community Centre and the Spin Studio at Gleneagles Community Centre.

The Aquatic Centre has been closed for seasonal maintenance and will remain closed.

All of these closures are effective March 14 until further notice.

The West Vancouver Community Centre, West Vancouver Memorial Library, Ice Arena, Gleneagles Clubhouse, Gleneagles Community Centre and other district facilities will remain open at this time.

District staff are assessing the situation and may potentially take additional measures.

Food service at the Seniors’ Activity Centre will continue on a take-out basis between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., seven days a week.

“Seniors and people with compromised immune systems are the most vulnerable members of our population. By closing these facilities, we hope to slow down and contain the inevitable spread of Coronavirus,” said Mayor Mary-Ann Booth.

Further measures will be considered in regards to public meetings, public gatherings and public facilities, as the need arises.
