A 55-year-old Kelowna man is facing criminal charges after being stopped by police in West Vancouver following numerous reports of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 1.
On November 2, 2025, several 911 calls were made to police across the Lower Mainland—from Chilliwack to West Vancouver—about a brown Dodge Ram 1500 driving erratically westbound on Highway 1. Just before 11 a.m., BC Highway Patrol officers located the vehicle as it arrived at the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal, where the driver was arrested with assistance from West Vancouver Police.
The man was taken into custody for alleged impaired and prohibited driving. His pre-teen sons were in the vehicle at the time. West Vancouver Police officers ensured the boys were safe, providing them with food and contacting the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development, which took immediate action to assist.

“Highway safety is a community effort. People called 911 to guide us to the vehicle, and we worked with our policing partners to end this safely,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “It’s a sad situation, especially when children are involved, but it’s important that people see their police agencies working well together.”
“The West Vancouver Police Department is grateful to the members of the public who alerted authorities promptly,” added Sergeant Chris Bigland. “Driving while intoxicated presents incredible risks, and we’re pleased we were able to work with our partners to get this driver off the road before anyone was hurt.”
The Kelowna man has not yet been formally charged.

Pretty sad he was able to drive from Chilliwack to West Van before getting pulled over.
