Staff report

West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) officers caught three impaired drivers during traffic stops between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today. “Drinking and driving isn’t just a nighttime problem,” West Van Police Department tweeted.

In 2023, one was seriously injured after exchanging gunfire with the police during an impaired driving stop in the community. In the same year, police warned about drunk driving after a man drove his car through a playground at Ambleside Park. ICBC reminds people that BC has Canada’s strict drinking and driving laws.

Driving penalties can include license suspensions ranging from 24 hours to 90 days, vehicle impoundment, fines between $600 and $4,060, jail time, mandatory rehabilitation programs, and installing an ignition interlock device in your vehicle. Impaired drivers may also be required to pay a driver risk premium on top of their insurance costs.
