A Surrey man faces more than a dozen charges after West Vancouver police say he lured a woman with a fake job offer, drove her to a secluded location and held her against her will.
Officers responded around 11 p.m. on Jan. 15 after the woman, who had been brought from Surrey under the pretense of a cleaning job, escaped the vehicle on foot and sought help. Investigators subsequently linked the case to similar incidents in Surrey and Pitt Meadows.
Amritpal Singh, 28, of Surrey — who also used the aliases “Amar Singh” and “Aman Singh” — has been charged with two counts of kidnapping, two counts of uttering threats, forcible confinement, sexual assault with a weapon, assault with a weapon, assault, two counts of using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and three counts of mischief related to computer data, text messages and telephone records.
Police believe there may be more victims or witnesses who have not yet come forward. Anyone who received communication from someone using the names “Amar” or “Aman” Singh — even if they did not respond — is asked to contact their local police department.
