West Vancouver police impounded five vehicles and removed four impaired drivers from the road this week in a targeted highway safety campaign on Highway 99. The enforcement blitz focused on what police described as the “most egregious and highest-risk behaviours,” including excessive speeding and prohibited driving.
Two drivers were caught racing at 178 km/h—more than 70 km/h over the posted speed limit. “These unacceptable speeds greatly increase the risks for all members of the public using the roadways,” police said in a statement.
In total, officers took four impaired drivers off the road, caught two prohibited drivers behind the wheel despite revoked licences, and issued one Notice and Order requiring vehicle inspection. West Vancouver police say the operation is part of an ongoing effort to improve safety on the busy highway corridor. They’re urging all motorists to slow down, stay sober, and drive responsibly.
Keep it up!!!
The WVPD need to do the same for the late night racers on Marine Drive in Ambleside. Some are so noisy I’m surprised they don’t hear them from their police station
