West Vancouver Police, with support from RCMP Air Services, issued 68 tickets during a targeted enforcement operation on Highway 1 and Highway 99 aimed at curbing high-risk driving.
The operation, which used the RCMP’s Air 1 helicopter to track and coordinate with officers on the ground, focused on the Upper Levels Highway and the Sea to Sky corridor, two routes frequently cited for speeding and aggressive driving. According to a West Vancouver Police Department statement, the crackdown resulted in 33 tickets for speeding and 15 for excessive speeding—cases where the driver’s vehicle was also impounded.
Police also issued tickets for failing to stop for police (3), driving without due care and attention (2), driving without a licence (2), following too closely (3), failing to display a front plate (5), and motorcycle licence violations (5).
In addition, three “Notice and Order” documents were handed out, requiring owners to correct illegal motorcycle modifications that created excessive noise. Officers used the stops to educate drivers on how noise impacts neighbourhoods, cyclists, and other road users.
“As we enter Canada Road Safety Week and Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, excessive speeding remains a serious public safety risk we won’t ignore,” West Vancouver Police said. The department added that more joint enforcement efforts with the RCMP’s Air 1 helicopter are planned throughout the spring and summer.
