West Vancouver police issued 24 violation tickets last Friday after officers caught motorists slipping into the dedicated bus lane on Marine Drive to cut ahead of rush-hour traffic bound for the Lions Gate Bridge.

According to a social media, the enforcement blitz also pulled a prohibited driver off the road. That driver faces extra penalties, including an immediate vehicle impound. Police reminded the public that the curbside lane is reserved solely for TransLink buses and motorcycles. Electric vehicles, high-occupancy vehicles, taxis, ride-hail cars and other private automobiles are not permitted, regardless of passenger count or schedule.
“The rules are designed with safety in mind,” the post said, urging drivers to respect posted signs and pavement markings.
Neighbourhood complaints about so-called “queue jumpers” on the busy North Shore crossing frequently top the list of traffic grievances, officers added. Friday’s blitz was one of several recent efforts to keep the bus lane clear and traffic flowing.

It’s actually more dangerous now switching lanes back and forth. The current development on that corner should have built a proper bus lane so motorists don’t put their lives in danger. This area now has so much traffic due to the park royal ramp being closed off and numerous residential skyscraper developments. Why can’t the city get their infrastructure in place vs creating more hectic traffic rules for people. That poor California licence plate probably was not sure what to do there… motorists are automatically pushed into a bus lane when getting off the bridge, the sign to whistler says turn right. This bus lane almost feels like it was out there as an intentional cash grab??!
Thank goodness! Those who feel they are “entitled” are most often not courteous.
