A 19-year-old West Vancouver driver is facing a $167 fine after losing control of a vehicle on a wet Highway 1 on-ramp earlier this month.
In a press release, BC Highway Patrol said the incident occurred at approximately noon on Feb. 13, 2026, after an ambulance driver reported a black Hyundai sedan travelling at excessive speed on the Gagliardi Way on-ramp before leaving the roadway.
Officers located the vehicle off the highway, deep in the mud. The driver had lost traction in the wet conditions, sending the car off the road entirely. Both the driver and his 19-year-old passenger walked away without injury.
The driver, who holds a Class 7 novice licence, was ticketed $167 for driving without due care relative to road conditions. The teen was given a ride to a safe location, while the vehicle — which belonged to his mother — was towed from the scene. BC Highway Patrol is reminding new drivers to adjust their speed to match road conditions, especially during the winter months when roads can become dangerously slick.
