District of West Vancouver is installing new recycling bins in Millennium Park, John Lawson Park, and Dundarave Park in spring. This is the first phase of a three-phased parks recycling program in the District’s destination waterfront parks.
The new bins will include options to recycle containers, and food scraps, as well as a place for garbage.
“Around 50% of material currently thrown in parks garbage bins could have been recycled and we are working to divert more of this waste from the landfill. The new recycling bins will make it easier to recycle in West Vancouver’s parks,” says the District of West Vancouver.
People often find it easier to recycle at home than in public spaces. For example, West Vancouver residents divert more than 75% of waste from the landfill using the residential garbage and recycling collection program. To make it as easy to recycle correctly in public places, the new recycling bins will match West Vancouver’s other collection programs. Containers will go in the blue bin, while food scraps and food-soiled paper will go in the green bin and garbage goes in the black bin.
Staff will be monitoring the program and report back to Council on the results of this program to receive additional direction before expanding the program to additional parks.
