Friends and supporters are raising funds for Shelley Klassen and her family following the death of her 10-year-old son, Lionel Hall, in a tragic boating accident in Deep Cove.

Lionel, described by those who knew him as “pure joy” and a “bright light,” died after being hit by a speeding boat. His 11th birthday would have been in July.

A GoFundMe campaign launched this week is helping Klassen and her husband, Jason Hall, cope with funeral costs and lost income during this period of grief. The family is taking time away from work to care for their two other children, Julius, who is graduating from high school and heading to university this fall, and Abigail, who starts high school in September.

Klassen, known for her former shop, Blushing Boutique, and her current downtown studio under her name, has long been a staple in Vancouver’s fashion community, dressing actors for red-carpet events both locally and internationally.

“Jason is reminding the children that they must all live a great life for Lionel,” the fundraiser states. All proceeds from the GoFundMe will go directly to the Klassen/Hall family to help with funeral expenses and to allow them the time to recover from their devastating loss.
