North Shore officers issued 44 tickets in just two hours during a targeted distracted-driving enforcement operation, with the majority of violations involving drivers caught using an electronic device while driving.
In a social media post, North Vancouver RCMP announced it joined forces with West Vancouver Police, Transit Police BC, and ICBC to conduct the joint operation in support of Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Officers were stationed at Capilano Road and Marine Drive, as well as at additional locations across West Vancouver.
Of the 44 tickets issued, according to the press release, 36 were handed to drivers caught using an electronic device while driving — accounting for more than 80 per cent of all violations recorded during the blitz.
Community policing volunteers were also present at the scene. The post in X noted that volunteers played a supportive role in the operation and engaged directly with members of the public throughout the enforcement period.
According to North Vancouver RCMP, the initiative serves as an important reminder for drivers to keep their full attention on the road, underscoring the ongoing risks that distracted driving continues to pose to North Shore communities.
