The District of West Vancouver Council has approved an initial 90-minute free parking session at Ambleside Park, though residents will have to wait before the change takes effect, as no confirmed implementation date has been set yet.
At its regular meeting on May 11, Council passed a motion to introduce the free parking window “as soon as practical.” According to the news release, an amendment to the Fees and Charges Bylaw is required before the change can be introduced, and staff are still working with the District’s parking operator to determine the most practical approach for implementation — including how exactly the free session will be made available to the public.

Council also moved on several broader parking-related decisions at the same meeting. Staff have been directed to update the 2019 Ambleside Off-Street Parking Study, folding in data collected since pay parking was introduced. The updated study would also expand its reach to include the Dundarave commercial area and examine whether pay parking should be integrated with District parks near both Ambleside and Dundarave. Pay parking revenue would foot the bill for the work.
Consultants would also be asked to complete a regional scan of parking management practices and seek stakeholder input to inform options and recommendations. Council directed that the updated study be completed as soon as possible, preferably in time for implementation in 2027.
In a separate motion, Council directed staff to investigate appropriate locations for signage along the 1300 to 1600 blocks of Bellevue Avenue to encourage people parking in the area to support local businesses. According to the news release, the District will share additional updates as implementation details and next steps are confirmed.
