Drivers crossing the Ironworkers Memorial/Second Narrows Bridge face overnight lane reductions beginning this Thursday, March 5, as provincial crews move in to carry out bridge deck and expansion joint repairs over the next two weeks.
In an advisory issued by the District of North Vancouver on March 3, the Province announced that overnight closures will be in effect between Thursday, March 5, and Sunday, March 15, with bridge traffic reduced to one lane in each direction during the work.
According to the advisory, the first closure runs from 10:00 PM on Thursday, March 5, until 5:00 AM on Friday, March 6. A second closure follows from 9:00 PM on Saturday, March 7, until 6:00 AM on Sunday, March 8. After that, nightly closures from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM will continue each night through Sunday, March 15.
During all construction windows, all traffic — in both directions — will be routed onto the westbound lanes on the east side of the bridge, with one lane available in each direction.
Cyclists and pedestrians are also affected. The eastbound sidewalk will remain open throughout the work, but intermittent closures may be required at times. According to the advisory, cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to adjust their routes to avoid the construction work zone during the overnight periods.
Drivers heading into or out of Vancouver via the Second Narrows crossing should expect possible delays and plan accordingly during the affected hours.
