Overnight lane closures on the Ironworkers Memorial/Second Narrows Bridge begin March 5 as the Province carries out expansion joint and bridge deck repairs through March 15.
Staff report
March 4, 2026 10:55am

Drivers crossing the Ironworkers Memorial/Second Narrows Bridge face overnight lane reductions beginning this Thursday, March 5, as provincial crews move in to carry out bridge deck and expansion joint repairs over the next two weeks.

In an advisory issued by the District of North Vancouver on March 3, the Province announced that overnight closures will be in effect between Thursday, March 5, and Sunday, March 15, with bridge traffic reduced to one lane in each direction during the work.

According to the advisory, the first closure runs from 10:00 PM on Thursday, March 5, until 5:00 AM on Friday, March 6. A second closure follows from 9:00 PM on Saturday, March 7, until 6:00 AM on Sunday, March 8. After that, nightly closures from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM will continue each night through Sunday, March 15.

During all construction windows, all traffic — in both directions — will be routed onto the westbound lanes on the east side of the bridge, with one lane available in each direction.

Cyclists and pedestrians are also affected. The eastbound sidewalk will remain open throughout the work, but intermittent closures may be required at times. According to the advisory, cyclists and pedestrians are encouraged to adjust their routes to avoid the construction work zone during the overnight periods.

Drivers heading into or out of Vancouver via the Second Narrows crossing should expect possible delays and plan accordingly during the affected hours.

Update:

District of North Vancouver announced that overnight lane closures on the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge will begin Wednesday, March 11, as the provincial government carries out repairs to the bridge deck and expansion joints. During the work, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday, March 12; from 9 p.m. Friday, March 13 to 9 a.m. Saturday, March 14; and nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Saturday, March 14 and Friday, March 20. Motorists traveling between Vancouver and North Vancouver are advised to expect delays and plan alternate routes where possible.

These lane closures have been postponed. The DNV announced them as well, and took the announcement down shortly thereafter. I contacted them and asked about it, which is where I learned these closures aren’t happening yet. They will probably be rescheduled.

And of course, mere minutes after I comment that the closures are off, the DNV posts something about them being back on.

I haven’t even read the dates in detail yet, but they are different from the first posting, I think.
