You can have a night of Hawaiian vacation time, with just a drive in your car! I and Mark Sager invite you to second night with Henry Kapono and the Boom Booms for a night of Hawaiian and beach music at the Kay Meek Arts Center!
All proceeds go directly to the families struggling to get by after the deadly Lahaina wildfires. Who wouldn’t want to enjoy an evening of vacation during a dismal Vancouver February? For those who came to our first event in 2023, now is your time to relive those magic Maui memories once again!
This has been my passion project with the help of Mark Sager since surviving the deadly Lahaina wildfire myself by only minutes. As someone with deep personal ties to the island, I feel that I was given a second chance at life to advocate for the needy and forgotten.
It may be your thought that this tragedy happened a year ago, but few are back on their feet. Imagine walking through an area completely flattened by disaster. All that surrounds you are dismal grey foundations that used to sit beneath the town you grew up in. The sun shines brightly, and yet it is the saddest day you have seen. All your memories became ashes from a fire that swept your memories of your town and your loved ones away from you. At first, aid came pouring in as people pitied your tragedy, but now the world seems to have largely forgotten you and trying to gather enough money for food is an ongoing struggle.
For those who survived the Lahaina wildfires, this is what reality has looked like. As the world continues through its days, Lahaina’s people are struggling more than ever. The fire has exacerbated already difficult situations for people, and for many, it has crushed dreams. Lahaina was a cultural heartland for native Hawaiians and the home to a diverse and caring community.
If you enjoy an unforgettable night of vacation with us, you are helping people who truly need it. Lahaina is a town that embodies the values that we as Canadians hold near and dear; acceptance for all, and a deep rooted sense of community. Let’s all come together in a night of great music, great company, and celebrate those values.
This fundraiser comes at a time of great suffering for many across the world including most recently in California. My hope is to create a strong community culture of positive change on my home soil and beyond. Coming together on this night is raising public awareness and engagement so more future initiatives are possible. Join us February 13th 2025 at 7pm at the Kay Meek Arts Centre, your vacation is just a drive away!
