West Vancouver monitors Ambleside Park pay parking data as community concerns grow; current figures show no significant change from pre-program levels.

The District of West Vancouver says it’s keeping a close eye on parking patterns in Ambleside Park and the surrounding commercial area as its pay parking program rolls on. West Vancouver claims early data suggest the change has not significantly disrupted the area.

According to its news release, parking use in the commercial area is running at levels similar to those seen before pay parking was introduced, while park parking remains consistent with historical seasonal trends.

Some businesses, residents, and park users have raised concerns about parking availability and potential impacts in the area. But the data collected so far tells a measured story, the news release claims. Parking demand in the commercial area remains high, particularly along Bellevue Avenue, but the numbers do not point to a meaningful shift from pre-program conditions, the release claims.

The District said it has been engaging stakeholders throughout the process. Staff have met with the Ambleside and Dundarave Business Improvement Association on multiple occasions, both before and after the program launched, and recently hosted a roundtable that also included sports field user groups and event organizers, it noted.

According to the news release, the roundtable was facilitated by an independent third-party engagement facilitator, and a summary of feedback was presented publicly as part of a Council report considered at the April 27 regular Council meeting.

At that same meeting, Council directed staff to maintain the reduced parking rate of $2.50 per hour in Ambleside Park, continue monitoring and data collection with a report expected in fall 2026, and keep engaging stakeholder groups on possible future refinements to the program.

A high-level summary of parking usage data, collected by a third-party contractor, is available at westvancouver.ca/payparking.
