Apply to volunteer with North Shore Rescue

Staff report
March 25, 2021 4:38pm

North Shore Rescue is accepting applications for volunteer positions for Spring 2021.

Applications close on Mar. 31, 2021.

There will be a webinar information session on Mar. 15, 2021 at 7PM on Zoom, and those interested can email recruitment@northshorerescue.com.

NSR accepts applications in the spring, holds interviews in the early summer and brings on new members starting in September.

If you have questions, please email them to recruitment@northshorerescue.com.

The training program is a two-year program, with high attendance expectations, and an average of 400-500 hours per year.

Those selected must complete the JIBC Ground Search and Rescue certification, and must complete a wilderness first aid course, which will be provided by the team.

A high level of physical fitness is required, along with North Shore trail knowledge and experience with Cypress, Grouse, and Seymour areas.

Ideally, the candidate should be able to hike the Grouse Grind in less than an hour, able to carry a backpack that weighs 20-50 pounds in uneven terrain over long distances, and able to lift weights that exceed 50 pounds.

More information on how to apply and other criteria can be found here.
