Cable Pool Bridge in Capilano River Regional Park has been closed until further notice after it suffered significant damage from a falling tree during last night’s windstorm.
For safety reasons, it is closed while a structural assessment and repairs can be made.
Metro Vancouver is asking people to use Pipeline Bridge to cross the river for now.
Meanwhile, strong winds have left about 100,000 customers without power in the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and the Southern Interior this morning.
“As the storm is moving its way across the province, its causing extensive damage to BC Hydro’s electrical system due to branches and trees breaking contacting its equipment,” BC Hydro said.
Meanwhile, BC Hydro is also receiving reports of downed power lines.
“A downed power line is considered an emergency situation and members of the public should stay at least 10 metres back and call 911 immediately,” the company said.
