CityFest 2022 comes to The Shipyards on May 7

April 27, 2022 12:06pm

The City of North Vancouver is celebrating the return of CityFest this year, the largest youth-led festival in Metro Vancouver.

Organized by youth, for youth, CityFest 2022 takes place on May 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Shipyards. Celebrated in conjunction with BC’s annual Youth Week, the youth festival showcases an array of local talent, music, sports and arts.

“Youth Week is a great way to celebrate and recognize youth in our community for who they are, their talents and for the many contributions big and small they make throughout the year to make our community a better place,” said Mayor Linda Buchanan. “This year in particular, I want to recognize their strength and resilience over the last two years. Thank you all for being you and for all you do to give back to our community. Now it’s time for you to enjoy the fun planned at CityFest, learn about the supports available to you and make important connections. Happy Youth Week!”

CityFest 2022 will include activities and entertainment such as a longboard slide jam, live music, skateboard competition, youth art exhibit, and food trucks.

“For many people on the team, CityFest has been a huge part of our lives as we’ve grown up,” said Teagan Dawson, CityFest youth committee member. “We really missed CityFest in 2020 and 2021, and are so excited that it’s able to happen this year. We are always grateful for our partners and sponsors, but this year we especially couldn’t have done it without them!”

Looking for Performers and Volunteers

CityFest 2022 is looking for performers between the ages of 10 and 24. Young musicians or bands are invited to send their details to performingarts@nvcityfest.com.

Organized For Youth, By Youth

The City of North Vancouver’s CityFest Committee is comprised of more than twelve young people representing local secondary and post-secondary schools who meet throughout the year to organize the event.

CityFest’s sponsors and community partners include North Vancouver City Library, North Shore Neighbourhood House, North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission, Greater Vancouver Youth Unlimited, North Shore Alliance Church, and Flatspot Longboards.

More information on CityFest 2022 activities and performers is available at nvcityfest.com or cnv.org/CityFest.

Background – Youth Week

Youth Week is an international celebration of youth held annually during the first week of May. It’s a week of fun and interactions that build strong connections between young people and their communities and profiles the issues, accomplishments and diversity of youth. During Youth Week, young people organize and participate in many activities, including sporting events, musical performances, art displays, movie nights, community projects, educational displays and employment services.
