At a council meeting on May 27, the City of North Vancouver supported the liquor licence application by The Wallace Venue at 301-125 Victory Ship Way. This decision allows the venue to serve alcohol during events, providing a full-service experience for its clients.
The Wallace Venue, located at 301-125 Victory Ship, has been operating since 2019 and spans over 5,400 square feet of indoor space and includes a 2,400-square-foot outdoor terrace. Situated on the third floor of the northwest block building, it is adjacent to the Shipyard Commons and is known for hosting weddings, conferences, and community events.
The Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) requires input from the local government on such applications. After reviewing public feedback, city staff deemed the application reasonable and recommended skipping the public consultation, allowing the LCRB to handle it instead.
Wallace’s new licence will permit liquor service from 9 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, with last call at 11:30 p.m. and outdoor activities ending by 11 p.m. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available at all events, ensuring a comprehensive service for guests. Popular events at The Wallace include weddings, receptions, conferences, and filming. Wallace has underscored that the request for a Liquor Primary (Event-Driven) licence is being sought to provide its clients with a full-service menu.
The venue, located in the bustling Shipyards area, is surrounded by retail shops, restaurants, and residential buildings. Two people raised concerns about noice, but The Wallace has assured the public that the liquor service hours will continue to be aligned with its current operating hours. The typical entertainment, such as a DJ booth and live music/ performers, will be kept indoors. There will be no live music on the exterior terrace/ patio, except having music in the background during a wedding ceremony. Security guards will be on site for all events involving liquor service.
“The establishment of a full-service event-hosting venue is expected to result in positive exposure for the City with an opportunity for increased economic activities via the offering of flexible event-hosting spaces in The Shipyards. This also aligns with Destination BC’s advocacy for the continued enhancement and addition of meeting/ event spaces across Metro Vancouver,” CNV said in support of the application.
