City of North Vancouver is seeking public input on the proposed design for the 16th and St Andrews Park, near the Lions Gate Hospital.

“Our goal is to create an inclusive, sustainable park that supports active family fun in East Central Lonsdale,” says CNV.

The proposed design includes all ages play equipment, pathways with lighting, a  variety of seating options, planted  areas and trees, a weather protected area, and an open grass slope.

A climbing wall, sloped lawn, shade trellis with tables, and a hill slide is also planned.

In 2020, the City acquired a 0.22 hectare parcel of land to create a new neighbourhood park in East Central Lonsdale.

This land became available due to rezoning at 250 15th Street East and St Andrews Avenue of two rental buildings.

In the future there will be seven points of access to the park, with most people entering from St Andrews Avenue or 16th Street.

Some of the key features of the park site are two large coniferous trees in the northeast corner and its close proximity to Lions Gate Hospital.

What’s important to note here is that the City approved 12 stories basically across the street from single family homes (a development cliff – a planning no – no!), then in a parking – what parking neighborhood, (does the gang at City Hall realize how difficult parking can be around Lion’s Gate Hospital?), told the developer to reduce the number of planned/suggested on-site (underground), parking spots – LUNACY!

Tiny little parklets do not make up for terrible planning and over-densification!
