COS warns after cougar attacks dog in Anmore

STAFF REPORT
February 8, 2021 3:23pm

The British Columbia Conservation Officer Service is reminding the public to take precautions after a cougar attack in Anmore.

The cougar attacked a small dog on a hiking trail at Buntzen Lake in Anmore.

COS has now posted signs in the area.

Pet owners are reminded to keep dogs leashed & close to you at all times.

“Roaming pets are easy prey for cougars, and people are being reminded to keep them leashed.

Contact the COS Call Centre 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP) if a cougar poses an immediate threat or danger to public safety.

If you encounter a cougar, stay calm and keep the cougar in view, pick up children immediately. Children frighten easily and the noise and movements they make could provoke an attack. Back away slowly, ensuring that the animal has a clear avenue of escape.
