Councillor Jordan Back is bringing a motion at an upcoming council meeting on Feb 26, asking that more lighting be installed in existing and future playgrounds throughout the district.
The motion seeks to address concerns raised by residents regarding the need for improved lighting in local playgrounds. Back says that council members have been informed by families within the district, especially those with young children, about the need for better playground lighting during the darker months.
Councillor Back wants staff to comprehensively review existing and planned playgrounds, considering cost, electrical infrastructure availability, public feedback, and safety considerations. That would enable the council to make informed decisions regarding park planning and ensure district residents’ continued livability and enjoyment.
The motion offers three potential options for consideration: Council can support the motion as presented, refer the item to a workshop for further discussion, or not support the motion.
The council is expected to discuss his motion at an upcoming council meeting on February 26.
