The City of North Vancouver has approved a 58-unit rental building in a Central Lonsdale area.

At a council meeting on September 27, council supported a rezoning application for the six-storey rental building at 1220 St. Georges Avenue.

The building is located at the northeast corner of St. Georges Avenue and East 12th Street, on block south of the Lions Gate Hospital and east of the Fire Hall.

The new building will replace the existing 23-unit rental apartment building that was built in the 1950s.

The proposed building will provide 32 parking spaces and 87 secured bike stalls. The city has also granted the applicant a parking variance for three spots.

“Given the transit oriented location of the site, high-quality active transportation amenity provided on site, as well as consideration for onsite storm water management, staff support the minor vehicle parking variance from 35 stalls to 32,” according to a staff report to council.

Of the proposed 58 units, six are proposed as mid-market rentals.

Curb bulges and lane crossing at the intersection of the lane and St. Georges, speed bumps, new street trees, and a new sanitary sewer is also being proposed by the developer.
