A fire is burning in the Squamish Valley at 17.5 kilometres, within the Squamish Lillooet Regional District.
Christina Moore, DOS communications manager, said the fire in the Squamish Valley was a structural fire that turned into a wildland fire.
“The Forestry Service is responding, as the Squamish Valley is outside municipal boundaries. The fire is listed on the BC Wildfire Service Active Wildfires map ,”she said.
A helicopter and a 20-person unit crew are on site and they anticipate that the fire will be under control tomorrow.
They do not anticipate a need for evacuation or evacuation alerts, Moore said. However, the wildfire service anticipated a lot of smoke for North Squamish and Brackendale tonight and tomorrow.
The fire is suspected to be have been caused by a person, according to BC Wildfire Service.
